  • Windshield Replacement - shoebox Chevys
    from Higgy

The 1955-57 "Shoebox" Chevy offers a real trick for the novice backyard mechanic. When replacing the windshield, you will run into a real problem getting the bottom piece of stainless trim from the outside of the windshield unless you know one little secret.

Before you yank, pull and bend the daylights out of the stainless trim, get a 1/2 deepwell socket and as many long extensions that you can muster. Climb inside the car and crawl up under the dash with a dropcord or flashlight.

Look all the way up under the dash. And, just about 12 inches from each end of your windshield, you will see a small bolt that extends from the windshield trim to the underside of your dash. Simply remove the nut on each side and your windshield will be free from hidden restraints and ready to remove.
